About Success Inside & Out

The National Association of Women Judges’ “Success Inside & Out” Program is a re-entry program designed to assist incarcerated women who are about to be released from detention. The purpose of this training is to educate the women in an effort to reduce recidivism. We recognize that there is a societal need to stop the revolving door into our jails and prisons. We also recognize that the incarcerated women’s simple desire to succeed upon release may not be enough to help them get their lives back together, and that assistance is vital in planning their road ahead. Through this program, we provide information about resources available to the women upon re-entry into the community. The training addresses such topics as housing, transportation, education, substance abuse counseling, parenting training, stress management, self-esteem, job search, communication skills, budgeting, and building healthy relationships.

Goals

  • To provide mentorship and support for women in prison who are within one year or less of release

  • To provide women with information about resources available to them upon release

  • To provide an opportunity for women judges and other professionals to participate in a program within the prison, observe the prison environment, and become acquainted with correctional officials
